I don't think I've posted about Beach Fossils but I have mentioned about them in one of my posts somewhere on this blog, but they have made it to my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Just a couple of days ago I was browsing for new music on Spotify and had Beach Fossils in my mind all of the sudden after quite some time not listening to their music, and it just so happened that it had just been around 3 days that they released their new album "Somersault". At that moment there's this pure joy and excitement in me because how I missed their music so much, and being someone who's loved their music from the past, I knew right away I was going to love this album. If you can take a moment to listen to their newest album or even just one of their songs from the past that would be great.
If Real Estate or Smith Westerns kind of songs are what you're into, then chances are you're going to love Beach Fossils. Enjoy these tracks from their album. If you don't own Spotify, I'm going to include some of their new tracks from their album just in case.
I have come to the most fun and anticipated part of college which is designing my own collection without making them come to life (sometimes you just want to create whatever the heck you want without considering how to actually produce the garment. And it's fun).
This assignment is called Thematic Collection, and we were supposed to be as creative as we can and create our very own mini fashion collection with our own ideas, without being given a theme, which, you know, everyone was waiting for basically all these entire 3 terms of being in this school. For this assignment we were asked to make some sort of report and a sketchbook which has very minor difference. The only difference I know is in the sketchbook, the actual fabric and zippers are attached to the paper, also the rough sketches of the clothes, whereas in the report, everything is scanned and basically a flat and not bulky version of the sketchbook (and by the way not a little amount of money was spent to print 69 pages of art papers, let me tell you).
I obviously know very little but I have always been fascinated with the galaxy and every matter that has anything to do with it, so I decided to make a collection based on that theme. We had to choose a fabric that matches the theme, at least one fabric treatment (techniques that are used for fabrics such as printing, beading, dyeing, weaving, or anything we want), color chart, etc. I took inspirations from a space suit hence the voluminous silhouette and the placement of the zippers. I also used different shades of orange which was inspired by the eclipse, and obviously I had to include a dark blue with beadings on top to resemble the night sky.
I uploaded the whole report on my Behance if you'd like to take a look :-)
One more thing to add, I thought it would just be appropriate to include Logic's track as his album kinda match my collection's theme you know? I have been listening to Logic (I don't know what's up with me and rap music lately) and he is officially my spirit animal. Not only because of his music but also because of his way of speaking and basically just the way he sees things in life i guess? I dunno..
Kinda late for the party (but not really, it's still December!) cause this album was released early this month but I've been listening nonstop to Troye Sivan's Blue Neighborhood. I listened to his first songs a few months back but I was only started to gravitate towards his songs recently. Something so soothing about his voice and music and just overall a great album. I recently bought the deluxe version on itunes and it's been on repeat ever since. My favorite tracks include Wild, For Him, Youth, Blue, Ease, and Heaven. But really, every song is good.
Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate Troye's dancing?!
Guess what? I have returned with another (surprise, surprise) music post. Lately I've been having the crappiest, most unorganized sleeping schedule I've ever had since forever ago. I'm not entirely sure why do I keep going to sleep at such late hours, nor do I give any sorts of concerns to my body.
Funny story, A few months back I promised myself to sleep no longer than 10PM, but pretty much failed. For the past three days I've been sleeping at 1AM on school days, which leads to a conclusion that I've only got 3,5 hours of sleep. But other than that, I'm relieved exam week is finally over, although I'm still pretty stressed out about school. But on the bright side, I have somehow managed to gather a bunch of songs and I'd like to share it, ya know, to cease this seemingly incessant stress of mine, and hopefully yours too, for a little while. Enjoy.
Last but not least I have a movie favorite for November and it is probably my favorite out of all my favorites because this movie has seriously gotten me head over heels. It is called God Help The Girl, starring Emily Browning (Eve), Olly Alexander (James), and Hannah Murray (Cassie). Fun fact, Hannah Murray's character on Skins is also named Cassie. I thought you should know?
This is an English musical drama movie that starts off with that main character, Eve, escaping from a psychiatric hospital as she suffers from anorexia nervosa and she begins singing as she's making her way out from the hospital to Glasgow in hopes that she will become a musician. She had to escape because the nurses wouldn't let Eve do music before she can eat properly or do other things that normal people do.
At Glasgow she met James, who is an aspiring songwriter and is also a lifeguard, and became friends since then. Long story short, James introduced Eve to his guitar student, cassie, which then they started becoming friends and slowly turning into a band. This story is basically about their journey creating a band of their own. There are lots of spontaneous singing with quirky dances which I find really cute. Seriously. And my favorite song from the movie is "I'll Have To Dance With Cassie". I find myself always dancing to this song either on my mind or I'm really physically dancing on my own, because it is seriously that good. Please do watch it. Thanks.
This month I'm kinda cheating on this theme of Monthly Music Crush because I skipped two months (oops..?) due to crazy schoolworks so I didn't even bother to check my blog once in a while. But now here I am trying to catch up with this thing that I'm supposed to be be doing each month, so here we go.
As you probably know, or you didn't know, well now I'm telling you this, I love anything from psychedelic rock to indie & alternative rock even slacker rock because they just happen to immensely soothe my aching soul (what an exaggeration). Apparently slacker rock is a new genre I just discovered? Calling genre police because that's how musicians Mac Demarco and Kurt Vile describes their music style. And I love both of them.
Moving on, for the month of December I'm bringing to you an indie rock band/girlgroup/however you want to call it, from Brooklyn, New York, Habibi. I actually discovered them last month through Zoe Suen. The name Habibi means "My Love" in arabic. Their music is influenced by Middle Eastern music/melody. Grunge and punk are also their musical influences and boom; an awesome band is created. The band consists of Lenaya "Lenny" Lynch (guitar, vocals), Rahill Jamalifard (lead vocals, tambourine), Erin Campbell (bass, guitar, vocals), and Karen Isabel (drums).
Now I'm going to do a little comparison here. Based on my opinion, their music is somehow similar to Beach Fossils. Similar in the sense of how they both have the same kind of harmony/rhythm of guitar or maybe it's just me? I don't know. You be the judge. If you didn't know already, Beach Fossils is an American rock band, which is, surprise surprise, also based in Brooklyn, New York. If you like Beach Fossils then you sure as hell will like Habibi as well. Enough babbling, you can listen to two of my favourite tracks from Habibi. Enjoy and you're welcome.
Since I post a lot of music stuff, I figured I'd do some sort of series where I share my new music finds (usually bands) every month and featuring some of their songs through my blog. The first one in this Monthly Music Crush is Juce, a girlgroup from London.
Okay this past month I've been obsessing over these things I'm about to tell you and I don't think it's too late to post this kind of post so without babbling let's just jump right into it:
Music: The Black Keys - Turn blue
Duo Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney emerged with their 8th studio album and I've really been enjoying listening to the songs, I would say this album is quite different from their previous studio album "El Camino". The songs in this album are lacking in their signature rhythm, having some sort of slightly slow beats to them, however I love this album.
Tv Series: Bates Motel
Okay so I just finished season 2 and I was watching this nonstop and let me tell you this: This is the kind of series that will undoubtedly get you sucked in, I'll tell you why. But let me just say that the script is very predictable, like I always know what they're going to say afterwards.
If you recall there was the exact same titled movie in 1987. However in this newly made series, they added a lot of stories that were never happened in the original movie.
I'll just give you a quick description of this series. This series centres on two characters, a mother, , played by Vera Farmiga, and her 17 year old son, Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore. Episode 1 begins with a death of Norman's father. After his death, Norma decided to move out of town to "start over" with her son from Arizona to a fictional town of White Pine Bay, Oregon, where Norma bought a motel. Long story short, Norma was involved in a murder action and made Norman got involved too. Norma and Norman Bates had to keep up with the police as they were constantly trying to interrogate this family for the murder action. As time passes by, this family is somehow constantly experiencing unusual situations and meet people that basically ruin their lives. As you get closer to the end of season 2, you'll find out the dark backstory about Norman Bates that caused all sorts of trouble ever since they moved to White Pine Bay.
Oh, and can we just have a moment of silence to appreciate how fine Dylan Massett (Norman Bates' brother, played by Max Thieriot) is?? I wasn't initially obsessed with him, but towards the end of season one, that's when I thought, "wow I just found the most perfect human being ever existed", because with that bad boy look and attitude, yet he's a helper at heart and has saved many people's lives, I mean, wowwwww I don't even know what to say.
I can't really say much about this series (or else I'll spoil the story) nor give a glimpse of the series, because that is the worst thing to know when you haven't watched it yet. Season 3 is not available yet but defffff can't wait.
Movie: They Live
This movie is basically an 80's science-fiction movie with a powerful message that follows with a drifter referred as "Nada" who finds a box hidden in a wall in a building nearby a church in which he runs into a pair of sunglasses. When he puts them on, his vision turns black and white, and every advertisement he sees hides subliminal messages to obey and turns the human race to be passive.
Sleepless night and it's nearly dawn I thought I'd share The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's new single "Simple and Sure". This could just be your instant mood-lifter when you're having a bad day.
I decided to make a random post because I've been pretty much disappeared for quite some time. I'm going to include my random favorites, my highlight for the past few weeks, and possibly a list of my mostly played tunes recently.
Oh and in case you were wondering; Whenever, Wherever. A song title by Bombay Bicycle Club. Just because I had no idea what to write. So why the heck not.
Favorites
1. Herbal Essences Drama Clean Shampoo
I was in a supermarket looking around the hair care section (like I always do) and this shampoo caught my eyes right away. I thought the packaging made it look really fresh and so I sniffed it. I fell in love with it and decided to purchase it because I was on the market for a clarifying shampoo to prevent buildup and stuff like that for me to use every once a week, and then I can use my regular shampoo every other day.
First of all, this smells like gummy bears. Yes, gummy bears. At first it smelled fresh, but then after awhile I realised, uh, this thing smells exactly like gummy bears. Which is awesome. Now on to the shampoo: Yes, it does dry out my hair an I was fully aware of that since this is a clarifying shampoo anyway, but it cleans my hair really, really well. It leaves my hair ultra light and smelling like gummy bears the whole day. But because it does dry my hair out, I always use this shampoo in conjunction with a deep conditioning mask and it works just fine.
2. Original Source shower gel in vanilla raspberry
I don't tend to like sweet scents. I'm more fond of fresh scents, but this one in particular is (uh, can I say the word..) the bomb dot com. If you know that alpenliebe candy with white and red swirls on it, yeah, this smells exactly like that. I can't help but to sniff it all the time. If you like sweet scents.. This is the one. Seriously though.
3. Yankee Candle, "A child's Wish"
It's not a favorites post without including my favorite scent for my bedroom at the moment and instead of sweet, florally scents (the kind of scents I would usually go for), I decided to purchase something a little bit different this time. I sniffed this candle for the first time and there was no hesitation to bring this baby home so I got it. Close your eyes and sniff this candle and it literally feels like you're walking on a fresh garden on a post-rainy morning kinda situation.
4. Avène Thermal Spring Water
I had always been hesitant whether to purchase this or not, since I heard a lot of people raving about this product, now I finally got it, and fell in love. It says that it soothes an irritated skin and it definitely does that. I have a lot of redness on my face especially my nose and it just wouldn't disappear for some reason. I just spray this thermal spring water on my face after I cleanse my face, and I noticed a significant difference ever since I started using this. The redness on my nose has mostly bona. Believe me when I say this isn't just water in a can, ha.
5. NYX round lipstick, LSS529 "Thalia"
Okay so I'm not really a lipstick person, but I just recently noticed that the darker the shade is, the better that color suits me, in my opinion.
So one time I was wearing my friend's mauve-y nail polish and I thought that it would be an awesome lip color. Finally I went to a NYX counter at Debenhams just because NYX has a wide variety of awesome lip color shades. I found the perfect, perfect maybe color that I was looking for and I obviously decided to get it. I also love the creamy texture which is awesome because it doesn't dry out my lips. Love love love this shade.
2. Went to La Salle's "I Made" fashion show at The Hall, Senayan City
3. Welcoming back my 4th and 5th ear piercings
4. Somehow managed to finally have a private tutor for French, even if it meant having to search online and registered by myself because I was stubborn like that. But so far it has helped me tons
5. Finally saw the movie "As I Lay Dying" starring the babest of the babes, James Franco
6. Successfully finished making the dress for my school project in quite a short period of time
Things I'm Looking Forward To
1. Palo Alto the movie, no doubt (Franco!!!) - will be released May 9 in the US
And can I just say I don't think I will be able to handle the pressure of seeing James with Emma, I mean can I just
2. Waiting for my Palo Alto stories book to arrive; recently just ordered it from Books & Beyond
3. Having my french test in a few days, I'm actually pretty pumped about that
4. Going to Korea in a matter of days!
Clockwise from left: Palo Alto movie poster, a scene from Palo Alto, a scene from As I Lay Dying
Palo Alto trailer. Enjoy!

Sarah Chernoff
PS I'm all about learning french so that explains why there are several yellow highlighted songs. Easy lyrics and very catchy!
Just a little update telling that I passed my French exam with quite a satisfying score :D
I had to say it, because I honestly kinda gave up when I was done with the test, because it was a heck of a hard test let me tell ya. I thought I wasn't going to pass, but I did anyway. And I'm so so happy and surprised of what I was capable of, I know anyone can pass exams like that, but hey, it's the little things that keep me happy. That's all I gotta say.
A bit irrelevant, but, I've been very busy for the past couple of weeks. No seriously, I am working from monday to sunday and will be working until the 2nd of may. And currently working on a fashion portfolio which I am extremely stressed out about. Because, um, I don't know.. My whole future basically depends on this. So, yeah, haven't been really able to post anything that interesting. But in the meantime, enjoy these sick tunes from my current favorite band Chvrches. And oh, can we just take a moment to appreciate what a cutie patootie Lauren Mayberry is? A definite major girl crush right now. And Chvrches doing a cover of Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know"? Bonus points.
Recently been loving these girls from an all-female French rock band The Plastiscines' not-so-new single "Comment Faire". I also like their old-fashioned (kind of?) theme for this music video, and I especially love their outfits here. Mom jeans, overalls, pastel colors and all.
While the song is catchy, I can also learn French at the same time. It's like, the best of both worlds.
October is nearly coming to an end, I figured I'd show you my favorites for the past month, which include beauty favorites, makeup, fashion, and even music. I was so inspired to make this post by a lot of beauty gurus on YouTube, and I decided to post my first every product reviews. Hope this will help you find something interesting!
Here are some of my favorites of the month, I will list them randomly:
1. Sinful Colors nail polish in #282
2. H&M three-piece bracelets
3. Etude House Dear Darling Tint in #03 (Real Red)
I'm going to do a brief review on each of the products:
1. Sinful Colors nail polish in #282
Just a beautiful sheer coral blue with a hint of glitters nail polish my cousin gave me from USA. Definitely reminds me of the movie Aquamarine. We simply cannot resist the beauty of this color. It's like magic in a bottle, almost.
2. H&M three-piece bracelets
Before I bought these bracelets, I had been looking for the perfect sized bracelets like these. Not too exaggerated, but still gives the perfect addition to my wrists. I was looking around H&M and then I found these! It's quite inexpensive and it's just the perfect design. It costs IDR 59.000 which is a pretty good deal if you get three bracelets at once. At first I thought I only got two, but when I looked inside my bag, it turned out that there was another one. They're lovely and they go perfectly if you wear them all at once.
3. Etude House Dear Darling Tint in #03 (Real Red)
Okay so I had been looking for a good lip product, since I have fairly pale lips. I finally got my hands on the nude NYX matte lipstick. It was the perfect shade, but not the perfect shade for my lips. The nude color just completely washes out my face. So I figured that I needed a deeper, perhaps darker color for my lips. I was also looking for a lip product without some kind of weird texture or shine, which is why I went for the matte lipstick. A while ago I found out about this product that people had been raving about. Yes, the one and only lip tint. I know Benefit sells all kinds of tints, but Benefit's products are ridiculously expensive, so I just wouldn't give up my money on something unnecessarily expensive. Luckily, I found this lip tint from Etude House online for a cheap price (IDR 60.000). The moment I applied it onto my lips I was very happy and overwhelmed. It absorbs into my lips right away without leaving any weird texture. I love love love the color of this. The color is very natural, you can build it up until you get the desired red color, or you can just apply a little layer and it'll just look absolutely natural. I love this product. Totally will repurchase.
4. Yankee Candles (Strawberry & Fresh Cut Roses)
Unfortunately I took off the plastic off the candles, so they look less attractive now... As you can see I've only used a little bit, but I also have been using another scented candle which I purchased at ACE Hardware.
I have always loved scented candles to death! They give my room such a good vibe and whenever I lit up my scented candles, I always feel like I'm in a different place. I particularly like sweet scents such as the ones that I have here, but every time I sniff every scent in the store I want to get my hands on all those babies. I just feel very happy when my room smells divine.
5. Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage Cream
I love love love this cream. Extremely moisturizing, and smells really delicious (yes, I did say delicious. Delicious as though I want to eat it). I have very dry cuticles and fingers in general, so the skin around my nails just starts to peel off and so uncomfortable to look at, even painful at times. So I was looking for a good intense moisturizing cream and saw this cuticle cream at Watsons's. I was pretty optimistic about this product because Sally Hansen products are specially made for nails and hands in general. So I got it, and the first time I used this I noticed a huge difference. My dry skin was nearly gone. I have been using this every single day and now my cuticles are super smooth. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a good cuticle cream.
6. Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder
I have a very oily skin. And this powder gets the job done pretty well. It is a mineral loose powder with a refreshing mint-y sensation, feels very nice on my skin. My skin is left extra soft, and it does absorb the oil on my face. The powder is white, but you don't need to worry about it. It is very transparent and won't leave any white cast on your face. I personally like the packaging, it's small so it can fit in a pouch, and it's small, but you get quite a lot of product in there. Just a very light powder that you can even wear to school.
9. Planner from Scoop
Got this uber cute planner from Scoop, a store in Lippo Mall Kemang. If you love pastel colors, anything floral, or everything cute in general, this store is heaven on earth for you. The store is packed with loads of adorable stuff.
Anyway, about the planner. This planner contains everything you could possibly need. A yearly planner, monthly planner, weekly planner, notes, everything is basically in there. Just the perfect planner for me, since I like to write everything down. They also come in different designs and colors.
8. Soft Will - Smith Westerns
This album isn't exactly my October favorite, it's my all time favorite album. Just thought I needed to show the world how brilliant this album is. Kind of reminds me of fall, actually (although I don't live in a four seasoned country, ha).I am genuinely in love with all the songs in this album, very beautifully written and the music is very soothing, definitely better than their previous album, 'Dye It Blonde'. This album is so perfect causing me to get all emotional every time I listen to the songs. Go look it up and you'll thank me later. Soft Will is perfection. No Joke. Period.
